Chinese New Year Celebration at Mines Shopping Fair

I visited Mines Shopping Fair again during Chinese New Year this year. It is all because of fireworks. This year, there is this special chinese opera show at the entrance of the Mines Wonderland, and it is free of charge.

I found this is something interesting and my son loves this also.

Finally, of course the main show is fireworks performance. Same as previous year, this performance last 15 days from 1st day of Chinese New Year until day 15th. It is at night 10.30 pm.

If you are staying at the near by area, like houses at the opposite of the lake, you can actually enjoy this for the whole 15 days. But it can be quite anoying also if you don't like it.

Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong International Airport, one of the most busy airport in Asia Pacific. We arrived at this airport in the evening (partly due to flight delayed) and then took bus (cruise, cost about RMB140.00) from airport to Novotel Watergate Hotel in Shenzhen. We have to pass Hong Kong Emigration in the airport, then exit Hong Kong Emigration near Shenzhen and finally enter China Emigration in Shenzhen. It is quite troublesome.

At the departure hall, there is this airplane model (this must be a very old model) hanging at the airport entrance.

There are overhead bridges connect you from the airport entrance to the departure hall. Beneath these bridges is the arrival hall.

It was 2 weeks to Chinese New Year, the airport was well decorated for the new year celebration.

Typical Chinese New Year decoration - Lion Dance. From the decoration, you will know the coming year is a "Pig" year. Many tourists took the apportunity to snap some photos here (including me).

Trolleys.

These are check-in counters in the airport. Maybe they are very efficient, I didn't see many people queuing at the counter. Very different from Dubai International Airport, long queue is a norm.

For most of us, we will check-in via Internet and just collect the boarding pass from the counter and then check-in our luggages.

This is one of the information counter at the arrival hall.

Novotel Watergate Hotel, Shenzhen

Novotel Watergate Hotel. I stayed here for 5 days during my trip to Shenzhen. It is located at the middle of the Shenzhen city, very convenience, the train station is within walking distance. The room I stayed was a small one in level 11, with two single beds. Per night rate is about RMB 450.00 (inclusive of breakfast).

The bulding at the right side is Novotel Watergate Hotel, and the bulding on the left (the higher one) is another commercial bulding (offices).

It was 2 weeks to Chinese New Year, the lobby of the hotel is decorated for the new year celebration.

Inside the room, there are tea bags provided as complimentary drink, but this one (expensive one) is chargable. So, have to read carefully before drink. This is RMB 5.00 per tea bag.

This happen in Dubai Airport

This is something special in Dubai International Airport. Many people sleep on the floor in the airport during transit in this airport.

They sometime sleep there for many hours, I think one of the reason is that hotel attached to the airport is expensive.

Inside Corinthia Hotel, Tripoli

This is the restaurant inside Corinthia Hotel. During our stay in this hotel, we had most of our meals here, simply because we don't know where to go for food.

Foods here are not very special, to me it just taste like normal Arabian food I had in Dubai.

This is the bar in the hotel lobby. It is quite a nice place.

Tripoli, Libya

The main entrance of the museum. Trees infront of the museum are date trees. This is the first time I see date tree.

From far, it looked very similar to palm oil tree, but when you go closer, you can see they are different. Initially the color of the fruits is in green, when it grows, it turns yellow and finally turns into red color.

Long time ago, these two pillars were used as landmark for sailors to identify the direction to Tripoli port. Now the port has gone, but the two pillars still preserved until today.

This is the Greenth Square. During week-end, many youngsters will come to the square, either strolling, play street basketball, street football etc.

This is one of the open air restaurant. Because of time constraint, we did not try the food in the stall. Otherwise, we will have the chance to try the real local Libyan food.

This is one of the government department building. It is a very old and nice building.

This building was a church long time ago, but it finally been converted to a mosque. That's why its design does not look like a normal mosque.

This is one of the main street in the city. As you can see, there are quite a number of people gather at the roadside. At here, they don't have big shopping complex as in other cities (i.e. Dubai, KL or Singapore), most shops are along the street. To me this is something special.

This is another corner of Greenth Square.

This is the poster of their president. In this country, you can see many of his poster/portrait. The number 37 means he has led the country for 37 years.

Beside this poster, we have also seen a theme, "Partners not wage workers" in many places (even in airport), but we don't know what is the meaning of it.

Actually, it may quite costly if they will have to change the poster every year just because they want to update the number of years.

Art Market, Tripoli, Libya

The is the main entrance of the Art Market, just next to Tripoli Museum. It looked like a castle also. We arrived there at about 4.30 pm, the museum already closed (close at 3.30pm), otherwise we will visit the museum also.

There are many special items sold in the market, including many banned items in our country, like leopard skin, snake skin, turtle shell and etc.

Some of these items looked disgusting to me, because there are real animal skin. Like one of the crocodile skin hand bag, it makes you feel that you are bringing a real croc with you, because the croc head is still intact.

This is one of the shop that sells golds and jewellery. Inside the shop, it is well decorated, but from outside, it doesn't looked nice, not even properly painted.

I asked one of the locals, he said this is because the bulding belongs to the government, and the business owner is renting the shop from government. As such, they will only renovate the interrior of the shop, the exterior will be the goverment's responsibility.

This is the clock tower in the market, it is so different from other building simply because it is well maintained and painted. It is the land mark of most tourist, because it is considered a tall building in that area and easy to recognise.

I heard from our local guide, this is one of the government administration department, it looked beautiful. Very contract as compared with buldings at the surrounding area.

This row of shops is just opposite to the goverment department in the photo above, doesn't it looked very different? Someone told me this street looked like just after war (as in some of the movie), some more the car is old and with horse as transport.

Actually this country has been out of war many years ago.

This photo was taken when I go really near to the clock tower. It is really a very nice bulding and well maintained.

Opposite the clock tower, there is this castle type of bulding which I don't know what is inside and who owns it. I think people in Libya like this type of building which looked like a castle.

These are hand made sovenirs, quite a number of shop selling this type of product. Quite expensive also, some of these are sold at about 100 to 150 Libya Dinals or more (1.3 Dinal exchange 1.0 USD).

This photo is taken from the walking path inside the market. The roof top of one of the abandoned shop is broken and can see another tower outside.

This is my favourite car, "Smart-for-Two" inside the market. I think with the narrow road inside the market, this is the most suitable car to drive here.

These are junks (or they call it ancient stuff) they collected (don't know from where), and they are selling these to tourist. Quite expensive also, about 50 Dinals.

The people staying here are exposed to outside technology also. As you can see, there is parabolic antenna and air-conditioner installed.
