A Rush Trip to Phuket 1

Had a very rush trip to Phuket recently. Before arrive at Phuket airport, I was a bit worry because of The Tsunami Tragedy happened on Dec 2004.
I was worried that I may be staying in a haunted hotel. From the airport, we took the airport limo to the Hotel Montana Grand Hotel at Patong Beach, we took the apportunity to ask the driver something about the Tsunami Tragedy. We were told that the Tsunami only damaged those shops and resorts near beach road. Whereas the hotel we will be staying is not really affected.

There are 3 roads in parallel with the Patong Beach, the Beach Road is severely damaged by Tsunami and many buildings at the beach road now were newly built.

This is a new complex under construction located about 500 meters away from the beach road.

This is Patong Tower, one of the highest building near the beach road, it is only about 100 meters away from the beach. I heard from one of the Singaporean who stay in Patong for more than one a half year that this building was flooded up to the 6th floor by Tsunami and suspected tilted a bit.

Many of the local people who stayed here have already moved out from this building.

This is another part of Patong Town which was not affected by Tsunami. During Tsunami, some of these places were flooded.

Viewing from the hotel we were staying, the beach still looked beautiful now.

This is the second road in parallel with the beach road. At night, it will be crouded by tourists. A long this road, there are many restaurants selling variuos type of food, especially seafoods, cheap and nice.

This was taken from the room we were staying. There are few "Taxi" (so called Taxi, without any sign on the car, it is just like normal vehicle) parked infront of the hotel lobby. These "Taxi" normally serve customers staying in this hotel.

By now, we can't really feel how bad is the damage to this island.
